About Us
Our Vision: Growing Together Through God’s Word
At Bible Listening Groups, we believe that faith flourishes in community. Our mission is simple yet profound: to help people grow in their faith by engaging with Scripture together. We are dedicated to creating spaces where new and growing believers can listen to God’s Word, reflect on its meaning, and experience transformation in their lives—side by side with others who share similar journeys. We’re more than just a platform; we’re a movement to reconnect people with the life-changing power of God’s Word through listening, reflection, and community support.
Where It All Began
The idea for Bible Listening Groups has its roots in a powerful story of determination and faith from Cameroon. Over a decade ago, a man named Efi Tembon was overseeing Bible translations in 25 languages for communities hungry for God’s Word. When funding was unexpectedly pulled, Effie faced a choice: stop the work or empower the people to do it themselves. He chose the latter. Effie taught local people the skills needed to translate the Bible into their own languages. What once cost hundreds of thousands of dollars now cost around $15,000 per translation. More importantly, the people took ownership of the process, leading, contributing, and celebrating their achievements. These translations weren’t seen as something given to them; they were theirs. The Bible wasn’t a “foreign” book—it was their book, their faith, their community's transformation. This grassroots, community-led approach to Bible engagement didn’t stop at translation. From this foundation, a new movement was born: Bible Listening Groups. The simple act of listening to Scripture in a group, discussing what was heard, and applying it to daily life brought about profound change. People listened under trees, in homes, and in fields. Lives were transformed, communities grew stronger, and faith took root.
Bringing Bible Listening Groups to America
In the United States, many people are searching for a deeper connection to their faith. Some have drifted away from traditional churches, especially during and after the pandemic. Church services can sometimes feel like passive experiences—like attending a performance rather than participating in a transformative journey. We believe the solution is to return to small, engaged communities where people wrestle with God’s Word together. Bible Listening Groups offer exactly that: a space where you can listen to Scripture, ask questions, reflect on its impact, and grow with others. We’ve partnered with organizations like Hope for America and developed a simple, accessible platform that allows new believers to join a group within days of making a commitment to Christ. Whether you’re two miles away or two time zones away, you can click a button and immediately connect with a community ready to welcome you.
